Wow, lotta bloviating and bull**** in this thread about who has the less legitimate claim to the north. The truth is that the northern war (which I mostly just passively witnessed) had huge numbers of twists and turns and all sides had some remarkable achievements.
Not ever mentioned here is the fact that ones' allegience in the war was mostly academic for most northern alliances until the day GoonSwarm showed up in Cloud Ring in a staggering - and impressively coordinated - surprise attack. YOUWHAT was overwhelmed in minutes (seriously, minutes, the GS attack was perfectly executed) and fell back to lowsec, vowing to return, and the war in the North looked finished before it even got started.
But for all the anti-YOUWHAT smack in CAOD, they were completely serious about returning. And a week or so later they did, alongside an unstoppable MC fleet that seemed to shrug aside all opposition (and still holds sovereignity in the far north as a testament to their offensive). The North collapsed under the weight of the MC steamroller, and once again the war looked to be over before it got started.
But over time Razor took on the mantle of lead alliance and, with a lot of hard work and some fantastic strategic decisions, they managed to effect the current surrender.
Is that the end of it? Who knows? The northern war has turned on a dime before. YOUWHAT still holds Cloud Ring, which is BoB's new northern frontier, and are now the third largest alliance in the game. For all the smack directed at them in the past, I would note that they still hold Cloud Ring, so are manifestly doing something right.
Obviously things do look somewhat different. The position of the north is predicated heavily on events in the south, and BoB really does seem to be in trouble right now. But M.Pire/CoW/fatal are still very strong, they simply saw the hopelessness of their present strategic position. IF they move to the southern front and help shore up defenses there, they may very well free BoB or MC up for an offensive and... well... the north's situation could rapidly become tenuous again.
Anyhow, I doubt the north's part in all of this is over. So maybe save the loony IWIN claims for after the war is over.
